Growing Your Summer Herb Garden

by Cory Phillips

It's that time of the year again. Plants are in full bloom and if you haven't noticed almost every grocery/home improvement store are selling flowers and edible plants, also known as herbs.

Pick yourself up a few different types (my go-to every year are: rosemary, basil, thyme, oregano, mint, and of course jalapeño peppers) and plant them in your garden or in a few pots on your porch. Besides watering them when it's been dry outside, there really isn't much else you need to do to take care of them.

I find that having an herb garden every year helps me be more creative with making meal - rosemary/thyme on chicken, basil to make my own pesto, oregano to put on homemade pizza, jalapeño peppers for pepper relish/jelly, or mint on weekends for a Moscow mule or two.

Even if you don't think you have a green thumb, at least pick up one or two herbs to grow this summer. Give it a try and see what happens!
