Too Tired To...

“I’m too tired to….”
You’ve all heard someone say that phrase before, and YOU have most definitely said those words before.

It is such a common thing that people deal with, yet we don’t seem to be properly addressing the issue. Feeling tired has probably kept you from doing activities that maybe you wanted to but didn’t have the energy, maybe you didn’t perform as well or focus well in a class because you were just so tired or maybe your lack of energy caused you to skip exercising.

There are a lot of reasons you may feel lack of energy and so tired all the time. But you don’t have to stay stuck in that rut, there are things to consider and practical steps you can take to be more productive in your day, feel more energy and just not feel so darn tired all the time!

1. Get moving! Exercise may be the last thing on your mind when you're feeling tired but
getting your heart rate up, blood flowing, and increasing your endorphin levels are going
to raise your energy levels.

2. Drink more water! Feeling tired is one of the first signs of dehydration and so by
hydrating your body you will indirectly be getting energy. All systems in your body and
organs need water to function...without they slow down and make you feel more irritable
and sluggish.

3. Drink less alcohol! If you are one to have that nightcap, you may want to consider
how often and how much alcohol you consume. A few hours after consuming, alcohol
raises the bodies epinephrine levels (stress hormone) that increases the heart rate and
generally will stimulate the body and can disrupt your sleeping.

4. Take time to destress! Stress takes a lot of energy out of you so try making it a habit
to incorporate things into your everyday life that help to relieve your stress. Listen to
music and go for a stroll, read a book, get a massage, do yoga, spend quality time with
friends...whatever helps you relax and destress.

5. Keep a regular sleeping schedule! Your body does well on a schedule; try to aim
for 6-9 hours of sleep a night! A well rested night will make all the difference in your
