Kim has been a client with LUX for four years now, and she is a primary example of why it is so important to strength train. She has shared a very recent and scary accident with us:

Two weeks ago it was raining hard.  I slipped off my running board getting out of my car and fell HARD.  My left elbow took all of my weight to break the fall.  After checking to make sure I was still in one piece, I had pain in my arm and numbness in two fingers.  Five minutes after impact, a hematoma formed the size of a baseball.  No exaggeration - I have pictures!

I sought medical attention and was instructed to wrap and compress the injury.  An x-ray was ordered and I saw an orthopedic surgeon the next day.  Here is where the good news comes in...after reviewing the x-ray the doctor looked at me and said, “I don't know what you're doing but in all my years I have never seen bones like this in a Caucasian, petite woman your age (60).”  He said my cortical bone was very thick and this finding surprised him.

I told him I had been working out, doing weight-bearing exercises, for many years and trying to eat a healthy diet.  He said, "Don't stop doing what you're doing!"

Driving home, I turned my accident into a positive and thought this story would be a great testimonial for weight-bearing exercises.  It is never too late to start!  It's nice to know that when we fall we won't break!

It is a fact: weight-training is a great way to increase bone density and reduce the risk of osteoporosis.  So, like Kim, let’s keep lifting those weights so that we don’t break when we fall!
